NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The 2008 season comes to an end this weekend when the Bulldogs play a four-game series with Brown. The two teams play a doubleheader in Providence on Saturday and then come to Dewitt Family Field for a pair on Sunday. Seniors Courtney Blachford and Aracelis Torres will be playing their final games on Sunday. The two have helped the Bulldogs record more than 80 wins in their careers. Blachford has enjoyed an outstanding senior season, establishing career highs in batting average (.302), hits (32), runs (21) and triples (2). In her sophomore year, she was second on the team in stolen bases (6) and tied for fourth in batting average (.281). In her career, she has amassed 93 hits and scored 52 runs.
Torres, the team captain, is second all-time at Yale with 80 career RBI and ninth with 146 career hits. This season, she leads the team with 27 RBI, which is tied for the eighth most in a season in school history, and is second in average (.312) and hits (44). As a junior, she was second on the team in home runs (4) and third in RBI (22). In her sophomore year, she led the Ivy League with four triples.
The Bulldogs (17-24-1, 4-12 Ivy) split a doubleheader with Wagner on Wednesday. Torres had three hits and knocked in five runs as Yale cruised to an 11-3 victory in the first game. Ashley Sloan added three hits and scored three runs. Tracy Timm and Lauren Huddleston both had two hits for the Bulldogs. Huddleston has a seven-game hitting streak, while Katie Yanagisawa has a hit in six straight games. Pitcher Rebecca Wojciak has allowed just one earned run in her last 14 innings.
Brown (7-23, 2-14 Ivy) edged Harvard 7-6 in the first game of a doubleheader last Sunday. Amy Baxter's RBI single in the eighth inning snapped a 6-6 tie. The Bears had scored four runs in the seventh to tie the score. Brown has a .253 team batting average. Linnea Anderson leads the team in hitting (.337) and hits (28). Kelsey Wilson has a team-high 13 RBI. Michelle Moses has started 14 games in the circle and has a 2.60 earned run average. She has 106 strikeouts in 91.2 innings pitched.
