OMAHA, Neb. - Alex Righi, Chris Pool, and rising freshman Emily Dominski concluded competition at the Olympic Team Trials Saturday at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb. after a week of competing for a chance to represent the United States at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Righi competed in three events on the weekend. Despite advancing to the semi-finals of the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle, Righi could not manage to punch his ticket to the 2008 Olympic in Beijing.
After placing eight in the preliminary race in the 100-meter freestyle on July 2, Righi missed the cut with a ninth place finish in the semi-finals. Righi also advanced to the semi-finals of the 50-meter freestyle with a 12th place finish in the preliminaries, but his 10th place finish in the semi-finals left him on the outside looking in on July 4. Righi also competed in the 100-meter backstroke where he placed 22nd in the preliminaries to just miss advancing to the semi-finals.
Pool competed in two events on the weekend. After being disqualified in the 200-meter butterfly on July 1, Pool placed in 43rd in the 100-meter butterfly on July 4 with a time of 54.45.
Dominski followed up an 111th place finish in the 100-meter backstroke June 30 with an 86th place finish in the 50-meter freestyle on July 5th.
